John Pickup MBE

We are delighted to announce that John Pickup, Liverpool Rambler and an ECB Board Director since 1997, will become a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his work with the recreational game. He is also a member of the ECB’s Major Match Group and Chairman of the Minor Counties Cricket Association.

ECB Chief Executive David Collier said “John has given a lifetime’s service to cricket and this award is fitting recognition for the hugely important role he has played in the wider development of the sport both with ECB and its predecessor, the Test and County Cricket Board. He has been a great champion, in particular, of our recreational  game and his knowledge and expertise in this area remain invaluable.”

Peter H Smith LRAFC President 1978-81

LRAFC are sad to report that Peter Smith, LRAFC President 1978-81, passed away on the evening of 21st November 2013.

A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday 3^rd December at 2pm at St Ann’s Church, Warrington Road & corner of View Road, Rainhill, Merseyside L35 0LE (http://goo.gl/maps/GXtSJ )

All are welcome at Blundell Hills Golf Club after the service.

Germany 2007

From the archives:

The Ramblers went on four tours to Maschen, the first of which was in 2000. The press cutting above relates to the final tour in 2007, which VFL Maschen won 6-1. Younger Ramblers teams had more success in earlier years, but this loss came against a Maschen side who had just been relegated to Sunday league football.

The fixture began when one of Henry Farmer’s pupils Christian Effinger arranged it. This game was reported to have been followed by a trip to the “Reeperbahn” where “they were still partying till the early hours”. The following day involved a more sedate boat trip and a visit to a beach club.  

Peter Dutton, President 1972-1974

LRAFC are sad to announce that Peter Dutton passed away on the evening of Saturday the 12th October 2013.

The funeral will take place on the Wednesday 23rd October. Following a private cremation for family only, there will be a Service of Thanksgiving at St Stephens Church, 11, Prenton Lane, Prenton, Wirral CH42 8LB at 2.30pm. All are welcome to Prenton Golf Club after the service.
