LRAFC are sad to announce that Gwyn Roberts has passed away after a long illness. He was a regular 1st team player during the 50s and 60s. Gwyn was a very popular Rambler who lined up at centre half with Nick McNay in the 1882-2012 Best Ramblers XI in Jo Russell’s Complete History of the club.
Congratultaions to Old Bolts FC, who won the 61st Liverpool Ramblers’ Easter Festival this year. Below are some photos of the winners, together with the Ramblers Vets lining up with Merchant Taylors Old Boys.
Liverpool Ramblers are sad to announce the death of Buckley Wickham, a very popular member of the club.
Sean Duncan remembers him thus: “Buckley was a great Rambler and marvellous company. A vital and popular member when the Club was at its best.”
Dick Harper said: “How sad. Another one of my era gone. Buckley would never have been in a list of outstanding players but what a good lad. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was a stalwart of the club and until poor health stopped him he was a regular at club functions. An ardent LFC supporter, he always used to remind me (quite wrongly) that I was partly responsible for Liverpool buying Ian Rush from Chester. Our sympathies must go out to Penny.”
The funeral is at noon on the 18th January 2016 at St Michael’s Church, Church Lane, Aughton, Ormskirk L39 6SB.
Both the Lads v Dads and Schoolboys fixtures produced goal festivals in the best traditions of the club. Experience told in the Schoolboys fixture with the combined Ramblers team winning 6-3. By contrast the long term future of the looks assured as the Lads were too strong for the Dads team running out 11-8 winners. An early goal by a young chap (regrettably kitted out in a red shirt) which was well struck from the edge of the box and went in off the post caught the eye of this correspondent. Prior to the football Dan Wise, the new official club Santa, delivered presents to the younger end.
